Six weeks goes by fast doesn’t it?
I’ve been marooned in London. The intention had been to spend a few weeks organising things back here, then get my flat rented out to provide an income of sorts before heading out to Argentina for three months. My provisional date for this to happen was 14th Feb.
Then I got back from France on New Year’s Eve to find a somewhat damp flat, with water leaking through the ceiling.
I spent the next five weeks arguing with the freeholders, trying to get them to locate where the leak is coming from, and they took an age and meanwhile the problem got worse and worse.
January was spent moving buckets and plastic containers around the kitchen and bathroom, whilst the building freeholders (London Borough of Southwark) sat around sending letters about it by second class post. By the time they actually did something I was left with no usable kitchen, little functioning electric supply and thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Personally I’ve lived in far worse (particularly in China and in Indonesia after the floods), but unfortunately there’s not much rental possibility for a flat in London with no electric, no plaster on the walls and an unusable kitchen. Hence I’m marooned here until I can sort this out.
I suppose if you have to be marooned somewhere then there are worse places than London. I just wish someone would do something about the weather and the cost of living .
All this is a rather wordy excuse for why blogging and keeping up with my social networks hasn’t been in the forefront of my mind these past six weeks. Take this as a kind of ‘dog ate my homework’ excuse for my not keeping up with everything.
